  • Every coach must know the team and its strengths and weaknesses. And before knowing the team collectively, he must know the team players individually. Successful coaches learn what motivates them, what challenges them and what discourages them, and then assembles the team so that strengths are maximized and weaknesses are minimized.

Pastor coaching is quite similar. Canned formulas and cookie-cutter programs for building a successful team never really seem to work out. Why? Many times it is because the leader missed the uniquenesses of each team member.

Successful pastor coaching begins with listening to and learning the lead pastor and the staff pastors. Some pastors are motivated by studying and preaching only. They understand the need for administration, pastoral care and other areas of ministry, but their primary motivation comes from preaching and preparing to preach. For other pastors, it is just the opposite. They are highly motivated by other areas of ministry.

1:1 Pastor Coaching seeks to know you and your pastoral team individually and build a cohesive and effective ministry team together.

Executive Coaching gives your senior leadership individual and team mentoring for working together, ministry systems, leadership development, how to work with lay leadership and more.

Group Coaching occurs virtually in 6-8 week sessions with a group of pastors. These session are offered by special topics such as vision, personnel, long range planning, lay leadership, and more. See our Group Coaching page for the current offerings.

It is hard for me to adequately express the help that David Smith has been to me and to our church. In the sea of church consulting, you will be hard-pressed to find someone whose counsel is backed by the perfect blend of experience and wisdom. David never over-reaches, but skillfully coaches and encourages in a way that is Spirit-filled, transparent, and honest. In short, God uses David’s steady presence in my life to help me strive to fulfill my ministry (2 Tim 4:5).

David has been instrumental in helping me and my staff navigate the intricate dynamics of our church, community, and team. His guidance and support have been essential in assessing our past, understanding the present, and envisioning a vibrant future for our ministry. Utilizing a biblical, comprehensive, and practical strategic planning process, David has provided me with the necessary clarity to discern the vision of our church.

  • Calling and Context. How does one affect another, and what role does each of these play in the culture of the local church? Bible-believing churches have common callings - evangelism, discipleship, service, fellowship, worship, and stewardship. But each local church also has a unique context, a place where they are to live out the gospel in their sphere of influence.

Have you ever tried to adopt another church ministry plan into your own church, and not been quite as effective as you had hoped? Oftentimes, adopting the plan instead of adapting the plan results in a disconnect between the plan and the people, and frustration or discouragement in the heart of the pastor. Why? The answer is context.

What has God called your church to be and to do in your context?

Have you conducted a thorough assessment of your church and community?

What is the vision God has given for your church?

Church Consulting allows us to spend time together onsite and virtually to assess context, staff strengths, and opportunities, and, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, begin to chart a course for future health and growth.

PREACHING & TEACHING

  • Transitional Pastor

  • Supply preaching

  • Interim

  • Seminars/Workshops

  • Special Events

  • Retreats

David came to us as a stranger, but very quickly we learned to trust his wisdom and advice.  Without his help, and the leadership of the Holy Spirit, we would not have such a hopeful future.  God has truly gifted him in helping minister and guide churches through their troubling issues.

Personnel Chair, Middle Valley Baptist Church, Hixson TN

  • In II Timothy 4:2, the Apostle Paul gave his young protege, Timothy and very strong admonition. It was to “preach the Word.” Preaching and teaching Scripture is foundational to Biblical ministry.

I love the Word of God, I believe in its absolute authority, sufficiency and inerrancy. And humbled at every opportunity God allows me to preach or teach from His Word.

  • Transitional pastoring is a role that goes beyond pupit supply or interim. When serving as a transitional pastor, I believe my calling is to understand the current matters facing the church and with the leading of the Holy Spirit and partnership with the leadership, help the church chart a course to develop a vision for its future.
